Secluded log house. I imagined it was a little cabin. It turned out a big real log house with all pleasant scent of the wood, charming view, nature-loving environment where bunnies, deers & ...raccoons can be easily spotted under the green color of the spring. We were mesmerized by it when the first sun rays drop on the floor through the glass windows.
It is close to everything you wanna explore in Southern Illinois: Carbondale with SIU, Giant City Lodge, Shawnee Forest & Southern Illinois Wine Trail.
Highly recommend this place for any couples or families that loves nature, wants to escape from urban noises and requires a pretty high standard for vacation houses.

I've never stayed at Ashton Ridge Cabins, but I recently had an experience with their proprietor (Tim), surrounding the purchase of an expensive, pre-owned piece of heavy equipment which has left me deeply disappointed and dissatisfied, and in serious question of their integrity. Tim was very charming, warm, and assuring- so based on telephone, email and text communications, I became comfortable enough to wire him a large deposit for the equipment. I actually chose to make the purchase largely based on the product description and close proximity (26 miles), but before I was able to have it inspected, Tim moved it to another much more remote and distant location, 86 miles away. Since I was relying on a third party to inspect and transport the equipment, the change in location added significantly to my cost of purchase. When I asked Tim to nullify the transaction and return my deposit, he claimed it was non-refundable, despite the fact that this was not stated anywhere in the contract. Rather than surrender the deposit, I foolishly chose to purchase the equipment based on Tim's verbal representation and assurances of its good condition. Since the equipment had been palleted for transportation, and Tim insisted that it be "paid in full" before it was picked up, my agent was unable to thoroughly inspect it until after he brought it back to his location (some two hours away). At that time, it was determined to be deeply flawed, and not at all as represented. Subsequently, I tried to resolve this situation amicably, by asking Tim, the proprietor of Ashton Ridge Cabins to reverse the transaction and accept the equipment back. This would cost him nothing, considering he'd presumably already enjoyed many years of use. On the other hand, the equipment would be useless to me without a significant investment in refurbishing. Tim has made it clear that I am to blame---for trusting him, and it is now obvious that this can only be resolved in court. I believe this is as much a moral issue as it is a legal one, and would leave it to others to decide for themselves if they agree. They say there is a sucker born every minute, and I guess it was my turn to play the part. But for every unsuspecting sucker, there must be an unscrupulous opportunist. Tim and I have completed that circuit, and I have a virtually worthless piece of equipment to show for it. I also read a review on Home Away about an Ashton Ridge customer who's deposit was not returned. My only advice is, dont be the next sucker: Caveat Emptor!
